Backgrounder On Prabu
Prabu Krishnananthan began his career in the performing arts during his final year of education at the Victoria Institution (VI) where he was known to be an extrovert and very boisterous young man. His teachers believed he had a natural talent for being on stage.
This proved to be the stepping stone for his career and he was soon offered numerous roles in stage plays and performances by many well known theatre companies. In 2003 he was recruited to the Victorian Theatre Company as a producer, producing stage plays and involving himself in numerous plays, some of which were staged at “The Actors Studio” and other theatres.
He dabbled in directing and scriptwriting as well, aiming to broaden his knowledge in this field. Prabu made his return to the stage as producer, director, playwright, and actor in 2003’s “Shorts 2” once again sticking to what he knew best, serious monologues. The play was well received by audiences and critics alike but he somehow felt he did not get the satisfaction he desired.
After spending some time in Melbourne, Australia, he discovered the joys of Stand-Up comedy, something that was very popular in the USA and Britain but was still growing in Malaysia. When he returned home, he attempted to do “stand-up” and performed at a series of corporate functions.
His unique brand of humor was well received and he soon developed a modest following that supported his performances. Prabu’s performances are known for their rambunctious and infectious nature often touching on topics regarded as taboo by many but always in a light hearted manner.
In 2005, he pushed the envelope further by producing a show called “Taboo” at the Zouk KL, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most popular nightspots. Performing in Zouk’s bigger mainroom, he performed for a total one hour and fifteen minutes entertaining audiences with political parodies, impersonations and humorous stories from his childhood. which had the audience and critics thoroughly entertained.
Claiming comedy as his passion, he is at his best in the spotlight on stage in a crowded room of laughing men and women. Opting to perform more at nightspots to conventional theatre venues he hopes to break the stereotype that the arts are only to be enjoyed by the “Artsy”,
He has perfected a routine which incorporates tap dance, latin dance, songs and impersonations interspersed with his zany brand of comedy to bring you a total entertainment package.
It is for everyone, anytime and anywhere without any inhibitions. Prabu is in high demand and continues to perform regularly on radio, tv, at hotels, restaurants, and clubs as the hottest breaking young star on the Malaysian entertainment scene.
